This study is a correlation between parts of speech and writing in a narrative text. The aim of this research is to find out the correlation between students' mastery of parts of speech and students' writing in a narrative text. As the population, the first grade students of MAN Rukoh Kota Banda Aceh was selected. Then for the sample, the writer used simple random sampling technique. By using lotery in simple random
sampling technique, the writer found that class X.3 to became the sample of this research. The test was given on February 10, 2012 at 08.00 o'clock at MAN Rukoh Kota Banda Aceh in class X.'. It consisted of fifty items about the parts of speech
and one of narrative text that was produced by each individual students. In this case, the writer gave them objective test for the parts of speech and subjective test for the writing. The result analysis indicates that the students who got higher score in parts of speech test also got higher score in writing test. On the other hand, the students who got lower score in parts of speech test also got lower score in writing test Based on the statistical analysis by using Pearson product moment formula, the coefficient correlation is 0.95. It shows a positive correlation between the variables, so that the hypothesis of this study is accepted.
