Name : Diana Sriwahyuni Student No : 0506102050036 Department : English Department Title : The Difficulties Faced by Second Year Students of SMPN 8 Darussalam in Reading Comprehension This study is focused on the difficulties faced by the second year students in reading comprehension. The purpose of the study is to find out the difficulties faced by the second year students of SMPN 8 Darussalam in comprehending reading text. The subject of this study is the second year students of SMPN 8 Darussalam, which is located at JL. Hamzah Fansuri. Darussalam Banda Aceh. There are seven classes in this grade. As the sample the writer took two classes namely 113 and 114. The total numbers of the sample were 44 students. The method applied in this study was descriptive quantitative. A test and questionnaire was used as the instrument, The test consisted of 30 questions divided into 4 type of reading comprehension question. They were main idea questions. detail questions. inferring questions and vocabulary questions. The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions. Index of difficulty and percentage were used to analyze the data. The result of the test showed that the second year students of SMPN 8 Darussalam found difficulties in answering reading test.
