            This study is entitled &quot;The  Influence of Mastering Parts of Speech by The    Second   Grade    Students    of    SMPN    18   Banda    Aceh    in    Reading Comprehension&quot;.  The aim of this study is to know whether or not the mastery of parts  of  speech  by  the  second  grade  students  of  SMPN  18 Banda  Aceh  can influence  their  reading  comprehension  and  to  know whether  or  not there  is a significant  correlation  between  the students'  parts of  speech  mastery and  their reading comprehension. The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative research. The data was collected through a set of test consist of two parts that are parts of speech  test and reading comprehension  test.  In analyzing the data, the writer   used   the   formula  of   percentage   and   the  Product   Moment   Pearson Correlation  (rxy). The population  of this study was the second grade students at SMPN  18 Banda  Aceh  and  the sample  was  25%  of  the  students  that  are  30 students. Based on the data gathered, the correlation between two variables can be determined by using two methods that are the correlation coefficient (r) table and the critical value of r product moment correlation. The   result of applying the rxy distribution  shows that the coefficient correlation  is 0.972 and critical value of r product moment correlation is 0.374. The coefficient correlation score is higher than the critical value r product moment score (0.972 &gt; 0.374). It means that there&#13;
is a significant correlation between parts of speech mastery and reading comprehension.   In  other  words,  the  mastering  parts  of  speech  students  can influence their reading comprehension.  Finally, it is suggested that to have a good comprehension  in reading passages, students should have a good mastery of parts of speech.&#13;
