Total Physical Response is a language teaching method built around the coordination of speech and action. There is a method that can improve students listening. Therefore, the researcher was encouraged to conduct a research entitled "Applying Total Physical Response to Improve Students' Ability in Listening". The dependent variable of this script is listening while the independent variable is Total Physical Response Method. The research focused on the following point: Whether Total Physical Response Method can increase students' score in listening or not. The research population is the students of SD Negeri Ujong Kuta, Aceh Besar. The samples of
this study were students class Iv and total samples were 20 students. The data in this study were
collected in January 18" until February 15", 2012. The instruments used are test. The test is
imperative sentence that consists of 15 items. The data of test were analyzed by using t-Formula to find out the t-score. The score of pre-test and post-test could be evidence of their improvement after conducting the research. In fact, the mean score of the post test(67.975)was higher than pre-test (19.64).It is also shown that the difference value of t-score (7.15) was higher than t-table (2.086). In conclusion, the writer concludes that using Total Physical Response can improve students' ability in listening.
