Script Title : Using Story Map as Prewriting Exercise for Improving Students' Ability in Writing Text (An Experimental
Research at the Second Grade Students of SMAN 12 Banda Aceh)
The objective of this study is to find out whether the use of story map can give significant improvement on the students' ability in writing narrative text In order to achieve the objective of this study the writer used a quantitative method which is called experimental research by using one group pretest posttest design. The population of this study was the second grade of SMAN 12 Lampineung Banda Aceh. The researcher took one class of the second grade of IPA2 which consist of 30 students as the sample in her experiment. There were five meetings during the experiment Before the experiment was conducted, the students were given a pretest. At the end of the experiment, the students were given a posttest, The result of the study showed that the students' progress in writing narrative text by using story map as a tool of prewriting exercise in prewriting activity is increase. The students' ability in writing improved. By comparing the pretest scores and the posttest scores. there is significant difference score of students' writing score on pretest and posttest. The mean of the pretest and posnest scores are 6.37 and 8.6. When the two means are compared, the mean of the posttest is higher than the mean of the pretest. The result of the t-test reveaJs that the obtained value (7.964) is higher than the table value (2.045). It means that there is a significant difference of students' writing improvement that is achieved by the students after having been taught by using Story Map.
