Many expert have found the differences between male and female In the sphere of Intellectual functioning. Mental, Psychology. In the sphere of intellectual functioning. some expert .. claimed that male arc superior in spatial ability such as arithmetic, science and mathematic, while female arc assumed to be better than male In verbal ability such as tor linguistics functioning Therefore, in relation to these statements. whether or not It IS true, the writer in this study tried to investigate and search for the answer through a study of students' comprehension in reading.
By employing for about 34 students, the research was held to the third grade students or SMU I Sigli By using a random selection. the students or III IPA 6 were chosen as a samples of this study.The class has 38 students consisting of 27 female and I I male students.
In this study the students were given the reading comprehension test. The test was taken from GITA SMU untuk kelus 3, P.T Pabelan, 1994 which was written by Drs. Suharso with the title 'he All' Transportation and Thematic English learning for 3 whose Drs. Syamsuddin Umar as the writer with lssabella d'Este as the title. The test consisted of three form; essay. true- false and vocabulary test. and each of them had ten Items.
The result from the lest given to the samples was: female students had the mean score was 59,61 with the standard deviation was 13,68 while the male students had 70,82 as the mean score and had 10,25 for the standard deviation. There were Significant differences found between two samples tested, since the obtained t-test was larger than the coefficient of t-test provided in the t- table (Obtained t-rest 8,378 > t-table= 1,684) in 32 degree of freedom and at 5% level of significance she used.
