The purpose of this study is to look at some given theories and research findings on the application of Cooperative Learning for teaching reading skill through Numbered Heads Together (NHT) technique. The discussion is focused on a certain activity on the Numbered Heads Together Technique. According to Solner and Kluth in Mutiara (20 l 0:19), Numbered Heads Together (NHT) is an appropriate technique to help students immadiately understand a task by learning and teaching each other and working cooperatively in groups. Furthermore, Celeste and Davidson (1998: 1 I 6) say NHT is a favorite cooperative learning alternative to create some active involvement. The method used in this study is library research. The data collected in the form of theories, opinions, and statements suggested by experts related to the implementation of NHT technique in teaching reading skill. The data analysis used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The collected data is described and clasified sistematically to find out the solution to the problems earlier stated in the background of this study. A research was done by Jafar in 2008 with title "Improving the Reading Comprehension of The Second Year Students of Mts.N Model Samarinda through Numbered Heads
Together technique ". In the research, he conducted one of cooperative learning
techniques namely NHT technique in teaching reading skill for the second year students. In his research findings, it showed that NHT technique is effective in
improving the students'reading comprehension and in enhancing their participation in the learning process, particularly in responding to the teacher's questions. Furthermore, this study is expected to be useful for English teachers in teaching reading skill.
