Title : The Application of Directed Reading-Thinking Activity (DR- TAJ to Improve Students' Reading Comprehension

The aim of this study is to analyze theories about DR-TA (Directed Reading- Thinking Activity) on increased reading comprehension skills of students. The aim of this study is also to describe the implementation of DR- T A that can improve students' reading comprehension activities. Furthermore, the finding research also indicated that the DR-TA strategy has improved students' reading comprehension. DR-TA is to make students active because students are able to construct knowledge. students should be able to make predictions of the title and make predictions of the contents of the paragraph. The DR-TA consists of three phases; prediction, guided silent reading. and post-reading which enable the students to plan, monitor and evaluate their reading. Method used in this study is library research. The advantages of DR- TA encourage the behaviors of critical, thoughtful, and strategic readers. DR- T A is adaptable to many different styles as well as to other media. DR- T A is particularly useful for accommodating the wide cultural, language. and literacy differences students bring to secondary classrooms and for supporting all students in constructing new knowledge. The disadvantage is time-consuming of DR-TA in management class is not efficient. This strategy requires the provision of text books and often beyond the capacity of schools and students. It is only useful if students have not read or beard the text being used.
