This thesis is under the title of "The Influence of Vocabulary and Structure Mastery towards Reading Comprehension". Reading as one of the four language skills plays very important role to everyone who wants to increase their knowledge. Understanding word meanings of the materials fundamental to the success in reading. To be able to comprehend a text better the student has to master a lot of vocabulary. Besides vocabulary, structure must also be taken into accout.
This thesis is aimed to find out whether mastering vocabulary and
structure influence towards the students' performance in reading comprehension. To prove the hypothesis, the writer conducted a research at SMP Negeri 6 Lampineung Banda Aceh. The population of this study was the second year students and as the sample the writer chose only one class. To obtain the data, the writer gave three kinds of tests; they are vocabulary, structure and reading comprehension tests. It takes two hours only one day. After calculating the data by using the regression line, standard error of estimate and the correlation coefficient, this study showed that the correlation between vocabulary and structure towards reading comprehension are positive, the value of index correlation is 0,926. It means that there is significant positive correlation among three variables, students' knowledge of words and grammar (Vocabulary and structure) and their ability in reading comprehension.
