 <note>Reading  is  one of the important  language skill should  be mastered  my the students.  Teacher sometime applied  an inappropriate  technique  in order to improve students' performance and students  themselves   have  lack  of vocabulary.  To  overcome  these  problems,  an  approriate technique that  can  encourage  and  help  students  improve  their  vocabulary  mastery  that  will help them  in comprehend  the reading text  is  needed.  The writer  suggest  the teacher  to apply an appropriate  technique  namely STAO  in order  to solve the problems.  The study found that using STAD can also built the students'  interest  and motivation  in teaching  learning process. Besides,  the  students  can  understand   the  text  easily.  The  more  students   look  forward  to reading  and  anticipating  in their  mind  what  the  passage  could  hold  in store  for them,  the easier  it will be to grasp the main points of the passage.  This study  is  aimed to look at some given  theories  and/or  research  findings  of applying  the Student Team  Acheivment Division (STAD)  in teaching  reading  comprehension. The  discussion is focused  on  how  the  STAD help  students   improve   their   reading   performance.  To  find  the  data   needed,   the  writer conducted a library  research.  Based  on the  research  findings  and  experts'  statements,  it is found that STAO can help students  comprehend  the reading text well.&#13;
