<note>The study is intended to analyze some given theories and/or research findings on the use of teams games tournaments model in teaching speaking. Speaking is very important for students in learning English as foreign language, because English is a global language and used in diplomatic, scientific and commercial fields (Nunan, 1999). However, the students get difficulties in constructing the sentences orally (Ur, 1996; Majid, 2007, Mawaddah, 2010; Krisnoni, 2011). To solve the problem, the teacher should apply an appropriate technique to improve students' speaking skill. The method used in this study is library research. The data were collected from various types of journals, magazines, books, articles, or materials in the library collection and internet that related to the study. The collected data were read in depth and then drawn inferences to interpret the result. The study shows that using the Teams Games Tournaments {TGT) model can help students to be able to use the target language communicatively, reduces the natural social barriers present in classroom which include students from a variety of backgrounds and lets them enjoy the work (DeVries, 1990; Slavin, 1995; Ur, 1996; Huyen and Nga, 2003; Mawaddah, 2010; Krisnoni, 2011). The results of this study can be used as a treatment in learning speaking.
