 <note>Through this literature study the writer was trying to solve some problems of student in  learning  English,  especially  in  writing  ability. The  writer proposed  the  use  of Student Team Achievement  Divison  (STAD) in  improving students'  writing ability. The purpose of this research  is to describe  the teaching of writing  using STAD for Junior  High School  and the she scope of this study  only  limited  only on how the using of STAD can improve students'  writing achievement.  This study also explains the  theories related  to the  improvement of eriting using  STAD.  Materials of this study  were  taken  from library study  and  accessed  form the  internet (World  Wide Web). The method that used in this study was library study. This study reveals that In STAD, the students work together  in groups,  help each other in completing  the tasks, and provide each other with feedback  in order to improve their performances. Furthermore, they  influence each other to achieve  mutual goals, act in  trusting and trustworthy  ways, become motivated, and feel less anxiety and stress. Based on the research   findings,  it  could  be  concluded   that  STAD  is  effective   in   improving students' writing  ability. Thus,  it is suggested  that the English  teachers  adapts  this method in their teaching writing to improve students' writing skill.&#13;
