Title : The Procedure ofSTAD (Student Team Achievement
Division) Technique in Teaching Reading

The objective of this study is to analyze deeply some related theories and/or research findings on the procedure of Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) technique in solving reading problem like difficulties in understanding reading text and the use of conventional teaching method. The method of this study is library research. The data are obtained from various sources that are processed and described in a descriptive way. Based on the references and other research results, it found that STAD technique can be effectively used in teaching reading because it is focused on particular components, namely; class presentations, teams. quizzes. individual improvement scores and team recognition. It can solve the reading problem by running all of the procedures and components of STAD which can build strong cooperation and personal relationship between the teacher and students to make the learning process run effectively. This technique aJso helps students improving their ability in understanding reading text and increasing their self esteem individually or cooperatively.
