Teaching Readingfor Junior High School Students


The objective of this study is to find out some theories and research findings on the use of Grammar Translation Method in teaching reading skill. The discussion of the method is focused on the use of Gramm ar Translation Method to solve reading problems in which it is not easy for the students because of their own vocabulary and structure are different from English. The study found that using Grammar Translation Method can increase vocabulary of the students. Also, teaching learning by applying this method makes English gramm ar can be learned easily. Moreover, using this method makes students feel more confident and motivated in learning the language because of the teaching aids and materials used in the class and achieving success at a very early stage. The method used in this study is library research. The data is extracted from various resources and it is processed and described in a descriptive way. Based on the research findings and experts' statements, it is found
that Gramm ar Translation Method is an effective way in teaching reading. This study
is expected to be useful for other English teachers.
