This thesis is intended to find out if the students who are taught by applying jigsaw technique will be active. and have positive responses toward the classroom environment. The subject of this study was class XI LA2 which consists of 30 students. The method of this study was a classroom action research consisting of four steps; planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. This action research was run in two cycles, each of which had three meetings. To collect the data, the writer used instruments called students' observational sheet, teacher's observational sheet, and questionnaire, and the data acquired were analyzed by using qualitative data analysis technique. The results were found that the students' activities were improved, for example, in cycle l; the students' internal motivation was categorized as poor (25%), but in cycle 2, the students' internal motivation was categorized as good (75%). The teacher's activities were also improved from cycle I to cycle 2. For example in cycle I, managing the discussion was categorized as poor (25%), but in cycle 2, it was raised to be the category of good (75%). Furthermore, the questionnaire showed that 100% of the students were happy with the classroom environment, and 97% of them wanted to follow the following English classes through jigsaw technique. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of jigsaw technique in teaching English to senior high school students at MAN Model Banda Aceh increased students' activeness and got positive responses from the students. Therefore, English teachers should apply this technique in leaching.
