Larva Hermetia illucens atau larva lalat Black Soldier Fly (BSF) menjadi salah satu pakan alternatif untuk ternak unggas dan ikan  yang memenuhi persyaratan sebagai sumber protein. Pengamatan terhadap adanya kontaminasi Escherichia coli (E. coli) pada larva BSF yang hidup pada kotoran ayam telah dilakukan di laboratorium Kesehatan Masyarakat Veteriner pada bulan Februari 2021.  Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui jumlah kontaminasi bakteri Escherichia coli pada larva dan pupa BSF yang hidup dan tumbuh pada manur ayam. Sebanyak 60 gram larva BSF berumur 10 hari hasil budidaya pada media buah-buahan digunakan sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan dua perlakuan yaitu pembesaran larva muda sampai menjadi larva dewasa (umur 18 hari) dan pembesaran larva muda sampai menjadi pupa (umur 24 hari) masing-masing dalam 100 gram manur ayam. Setiap perlakuan dilakukan 3 kali pengulangan. Pengamatan jumlah Escherichia coli pada manur ayam, larva dewasa dan pupa BSF dilakukan dengan uji Total Plate Count (TPC) menggunakan media Eosin Methylen Blue Agar (EMBA). Inkubasi dilakukan selama 24-48 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa manur ayam yang digunakan sebagai media pertumbuhan larva BSF mengandung Escherichia coli sebanyak 4,4 x 104 cfu/mg, sedangkan jumlah Escherichia coli yang terkontaminasi pada Larva BSF dewasa (berusia 18 hari)  adalah 2,3 x 101 cfu/mg dan pada pupa (umur 24 hari) sebanyak 0,3 x 101 cfu/mg. Jumlah Escherichia coli pada larva lebih tinggi jika dibandingkan pada pupa BSF, namun keduanya masih berada di bawah ketetapan baku mutu air  untuk peternakan yang  berdasarkan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 82 Tahun 2001.&#13;

ABSTRACT&#13;
Hermetia illucens larvae or Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae are an alternative feed for poultry and fish that meet the requirements as a protein source. Observations on Escherichia coli (E. coli) contamination in BSF larvae living in chicken manure were carried out at the Veterinary Public Health laboratory in February 2021. This study aimed to determine the amount of Escherichia coli contamination in BSF larvae and pupae that live and grow in chicken manure. A total of 60 grams of BSF larvae aged 10 days cultivated on fruit media were used as samples in this study. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with two treatments, namely enlargement of young larvae to become adult larvae (age 18 days) and enlargement of young larvae to become pupae (age 24 days) each in 100 grams of chicken manure. Each treatment was repeated 3 times. Observation of the number of Escherichia coli in chicken manure, adult larvae and pupae of BSF was carried out by the Total Plate Count (TPC) test using Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMBA) media. Incubation is carried out for 24-48 hours. The results showed that the chicken manure used as a growth medium for BSF larvae contained 4.4 x 104 cfu/mg Escherichia coli, while the amount of Escherichia coli contaminated in adult BSF larvae (18 days old) was 2 x 101 cfu/mg and in pupa (age 24 days) as much as 0.3 x 101 cfu/mg. The number of Escherichia coli in larvae was higher than in BSF pupae, but both were still below the water quality standard for livestock based on Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001.&#13;
