Title : Looking Into EFL Students’ Expectations Towards Native English Speaking Teachers (NESTs)

Keywords: Students’ expectation, Native English Speaking Teachers (NESTs)

This study investigated the students’ expectations towards Native English Speaker Teachers as perceived by 49 EFL students and 2 NESTs at language course of Syiah Kuala University. The students learn English taught by Native English Speaking Teachers (NESTs) and Non Native English Speaking Teachers (NNESTs). However, this study was not to compare NESTs and NNESTs, but it was intended to obtain the information on students’ expectations towards their NESTs only. This study is a survey research which used interview questions and questionnaire items adopted from Wu (2009) as instrument. The purpose of this study is not only to explore the EFL students' expectations toward NESTs, it also aims to find out the NESTs' expectations in teaching EFL students. The result shows that students expect NESTs will behave like friend with them, more encourage them and have relaxed classroom atmosphere. Regarding the NESTs’ expectation, they always try to be more friendly with their students, try to give more encouragement in very relaxed classroom atmosphere. Therefore, it shows that either EFL students or NESTs expect the same conditions and it will provides many advantages in the learning process.
