Title : Using Total Physical Response to Improve Students’
Listening Skills for First Grade Students of Junior High
School (An Experimental Study at SMP Negeri 13 Banda
Aceh)
Keyword: TPR, Listening, Students.
The aim of this study is to know how Total Physical Response Method improves
students’ scores in listening. One class pre-test and post-test experimental design was
applied in teaching process at SMP Negeri 13 Banda Aceh. The population of the
study was the first grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Banda Aceh which were taken
randomly and the sample of this study was the students of class VII-1 that consisted
of 28 students. The data in this study were collected in March 18th until March 28th,
2014. The instruments for this study was test. The test was imperative sentence that
consists of 25 items. The data of the test were analyzed by using t-Formula to find
out the t-score. The score of the post-test (2208) was higher than pre-test (1232). The
mean score of the post-test and pre-test is (34.85). It was also shown that the
difference value of t-score (19.9) was higher than t-table (2.052). Therefore, the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.
In conclusion, the writer concludes that using Total Physical Response Method can
improve students’ ability in listening.</note>
