 <note>This study aims at examining whether the use of STAD technique can improve &#13;
junior high school students’ reading ability in understanding recount text.&#13;
Quantitative approach with experimental study of  pretest-postest control group&#13;
design was undertaken to overcome the problems faced by students in learning&#13;
reading skill. The instrument used to collect the data in this study by means of the&#13;
test in the form of multiple choice test. The results of the test analyzed by using some&#13;
statistical formula. From the results of the study revealed there is a significant&#13;
improvement on students’ reading ability after STAD technique implemented. Thus,&#13;
this technique can be used by the English teacher as one of alternative techniques in&#13;
teaching English particularly teaching reading in EFL class.</note>
