The title of this script is "A Comparative Study of Using Numbered Heads Together (NHT) and Team Games Tournament (TGT) in Teaching Reading Comprehension". It is an experimental research done for two weeks at MAN Darussalam, Aceh Besar. NHT and TOT are the two Models in Cooperative Learning method which can help the students to work cooperatively in doing the learning activities in groups. In this study, the writer is challenged to compare which one of the two models can give more contribution to students' achievement in reading comprehension. The writer took of two classes of the first grade to be an NHT treatment class which consisting of 28 students and a TGT treatment class which consisting of 28 students. The writer administered 20 pre-test questions to both groups dealing with main idea, factual information, terminology, inferential, reference, and inferential questions. Then, in teaching reading comprehension, the writer taught the both classes by giving two sessions of treatments related to the application of Numbered Heads Together (NHT) and Team Games Tournament (TGT). At the end of the experiment, the writer gave post-test to both groups. Based on the research done, the writer found that teaching reading comprehension by using NHT gave better result than that of TOT. According to statistical analysis of the NHT and TOT classes, it is found that the mean of pre-test scores both of NHT and TGT classes respectively are 46,67 and 48,82 while the mean of posttest score of both classes increase respectively to be 64,89 and 60, 17. The value oft-test that is 2,63 while the critical value oft-table at the significance level of 0.05 is
2.00, and at the significance level of 0.01 is 2.65 with the degree of freedom (df) 54. It is concluded that because the obtained t-test score is higher than t-table value
(2,63>2.00), the H, is rejected and H, is accepted. It means that the application of Numbered Heads Together (NHT) model is better than Team Games Tournament (TOT) model in teaching reading comprehension at the first grade students of MAN Darussalam, Aceh Besar.
