 <note>This  research  is a quasi  experimental  study  at SMA  Negeri  1   Tangse. The purpose  of this  research is to know  the student's ability  in reading  comprehension before and after applying  discussion  technique  in learning process. This research  also revealing about  research  findings  of teaching reading  by using discussion technique. The  hypotheses  of this research are (I) the use of discussion  technique  can  improve the student's understanding reading text (Ha). (2) the use of discussion  technique  can not  improve    the  student's understanding reading  (Ho).  T-score in this  research  is&#13;
2.09  and  its  degree  of freedom  is 58 for one tail.  In the table of t-test,  the level  of significance  from 0.05 is  1.697,  so that, the result is 2.09 &gt;l.697.  It means that 2.09&#13;
is  highest   than   1.697   and   for  one  tail  test.   It  is   conclude   that   the  alternative&#13;
hypothesis  (Ha)  is  accepted  and  the  null hypothesis  (Ho)  is rejected.  So, it proved that the use of discussion  technique  can improve the students' ability in reading skill.&#13;
In conclusion,   discussion   technique  bas  some  benefits,  one  of them  is  to  enhance students'  participation individually and students'  activity  in the class.  Therefore,  the&#13;
researcher concluded   that  the  use  of discussion  technique   is  one  of alternative strategies  to improve students' reading  ability.&#13;
