Title : The Use of Contextual Teaching Learning Method in Teaching
Writing for the Junior High School Students

This study is entitled The Use of Contextual Teaching Learning Method in Teaching Writing for the Junior High School Students. The dependent variable of this study is writing and independent variable is Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). This research is an experimental research with the research objectives is to find out whether any improvement in writing performance after taught by CTL method. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Banda Acch; the sample was the first grade which contains 30 participants. In this research, the researcher took one class, which is I, as the treatment class. It was chosen by using simple random sampling. During the study, the researcher implements CTL method in teaching writing for the treatment class. The instrument of this study is test, which consisted of pre--test and post-test. The pre-test was given before treatment in order to find out the students' achievement in writing descriptive text. Beside that, the post--test was given to know the students' achievement after the treatment. The result of the study was analyzed by using T-score as suggested by Arikunto (2006: p.306). Based on the result of T-score, it was found that the value of T - score was 9.47. The significant level with 0, 05 by d.b 29 was 1.699. Since the T - score was higher than T -- table (9.47 > 1.699). Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H,) was accepted. This research concludes that using CTL method can improve students' writing performance of SMP i Banda Aceh especially 1'.
