Title : The Implementation of Skimming i.n Teaching Reading
Skill for First Year Senior High School Students.

This study is aimed at revealing the implementation of using skimming to improve reading comprehension achievement for the first year students MAS Darul Ulum Banda Aceh. This study employs an experimental method design. The hypotheses of this study are (1) The implementation of skimming can improve students' reading skill (Ha).and (2) The implementation of skimming can not improve students' reading skill (Ho). The data was analyzed by using the descriptive quantitative technique and t-formula. The research population is the
1st grade students of MAS Darul Ulum Banda Aceh. The samples of this study were students of class X and students of class X. Total of the sample was 60 students (30 students each class). The data in this study were collected on April 25", 2011 and finished on May 13", 2011. The instrument used is test, the test included pre-test and post-test. The test consists of one text passages and each passage is followed by 5 multiple choice questions and 5 true-false question items for both pre-test and post-test. ln the teaching treatment, there were four meetings. Each meeting was treated with two text passages, also are followed by 5 multiple choice questions and 5 true-false question items. The data of test were analyzed by using t-formula to find out the t-score. The research result proved that t-count is 3.6 and the critical value of t-count is 1.67, the critical value of t-score is defined based on 58 degree of freedom on the level of significant 0.05. Because of t-score is higher than the critical value of t-score, alternative hypothesis is accepted and NuJI hypothesis is rejected. ft is clearly showed that skimming technique can improve students' achievement in reading comprehension. It is also proved by the students' distribution answer in main idea and detail table. Experimental students dominantly answer the questions with the correct answer.
