<note>The purpose of the study is to find out whether teaching speaking by using communicative language teaching will be effective to increase students' speaking skill. The population of this study is the first year students of MTsN Rukoh Darussalam. There are five classes for the first year, namely I1, 12, 13, l4, and 15. As the sample, the researcher selected two classes, 12 and 13. The l was an experimental class and 13 was a control class. The total number of the sample was 32 students. The method applied in this study was experimental method, using pre-test and post-test as the instrument. The test form is picture description. Here. some formulas according to Burns ( 1995) were used to analyze the data. The result of the test from the use of communicative language teaching method in experimental class showed that the students' speaking skill increased, proven by the t-score result. The t-score was 3.559, referred to the t-table at the level of significance of 5% with the degree of freedom (df) of 50 the result was higher than the t-table. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means that any significance difference performance in speaking skill between experimental and control group by using CLT. The result may have positive contribution to the implementation of CLT that means the CLT can motivate students in leaning.</note>
