The study is intended to explore some given theories and/or research findings on the use of Student Teams Achievement Division technique in teaching speaking, by using library study. The data were accessed through the library and the internet. Speaking is very important for students in learning English as foreign language, because English is a global language and used in diplomatic, scientific and commercial fields. However, the students get difficulties in constructing the sentences orally. To solve the problem, the teacher should apply an appropriate technique to improve students' speaking performance. Based on the library research, the study shows that using the Student Teams Achievement Division technique can help students improve their speaking skill. Toe results of this study can be used as a treatment model in learning speaking. It is suggested that, the teacher use STAD technique to enhance students' speaking performance.
