 <note>This study s focused  on the students  in increasing their  reading  skill by using communicative approach.  The purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of communicative  approach  can increase the students'  skill in reading or not.  The sample of this research  was all of the students  in SMP Negeri  2 Kuta Baro especially  class VTia as the experiment  group and class VIIb as the control. group.  The  test  was  used  ten  multiple  choice  questions,   ten  true  and  false questions  and ten translate questions.  The statistic  procedure  is used to analyze the data.  The result  of the  test found that there  was  significant  different  of the students'  skill  in reading  between  experimental  group  and  control  group  after the treatment was given.   It can be seen from the result oft-score in this study is 4.00  and the table  is 2.00.  It means  that using  of communicative  approach  in teaching  leaning  reading can increase  the students' ability in reading comprehension.  Finally, the writer conclude that teaching reading by using communicative  approach  can  improve  the students'  ability  in reading therefore the teachers  are suggested to use this method in teaching English.&#13;
