Jamblang merupakan tumbuhan yang dilaporkan mengandung senyawa kimia yang berkhasiat sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat efektivitas ekstrak daun jamblang terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa secara in vitro. Bakteri yang digunakan adalah koleksi isolat klinis Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan ekstrak etanol daun jamblang dengan konsentrasi 5%, 10%, 15%, 25% dan 50%. Larutan CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) 1% digunakan sebagai kontrol negatif dan antibiotik kloramfenikol sebagai kontrol positif. Uji daya hambat dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode difusi (Kirby-Bauer). Data hasil penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun jamblang dengan konsentrasi 5%, 10%, 15%, 25% dan 50% dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Pseudomonas aeruginosa dengan zona hambat masing-masing adalah 8,4 ± 0,52  mm,  9,6 ± 0,76 mm, 10,8 ±  0,30 mm, 12,9 ± 0,45 mm dan 14,2 ± 0,11 mm. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun jamblang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak daun jamblang yang digunakan maka semakin besar aktivitas antibakterinya.&#13;

Jamblang has been reported to contain chemical compounds that have antibacterial properties. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of jamblang leaves extract on the growth of  Pseudomonas aeruginosa in vitro. The jamblang leaves was extracted by maceration method using ethanol 96%. The concentrations of jamblang leaves extract  used in this study were 5%,10%, 15%,25%, and 50%, The bacteria used was clinical isolates from Microbiology Laboratory of The School of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala, and 1% CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) solution was used as a negative control while chloramphenicol was used  as a positive control. The antibacterial activity of jamblang leaves extract  was conducted by Kirby beaur method. The data were analyzed descriptively. The result of this study indicated that the ethanol extract of jamblang leaves at concentration of 5%, 10%, 15%, 25% and 50% could inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa with an inhibition zone of  8.4 ± 0,52  mm, 9.6 ± 0,76 mm,  10.8 ± 0,30 mm, 12.9 ± 0,45 mm and  14.2 ± 0,11  mm, respectively. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of jamblang leaves has antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial activity increase with an increasing in the concentration of the jamblang leaves extract.&#13;
