        This  study  is focused  on  the  difficulties faced  by English   department students in answering  Structure and Written Expression section of the TOEFL test. The objectives of this study  are to find  out problem  areas which are difficult for students  and  also to find  out  which  skills are  difficult for  them  to master.  The number of sample  in this study is 30 students  taken from the third-year  students  of English  department.   In this case, all students   must have  passed   Structure IV subject.  The  method  used  in this study  is descriptive   qualitative. To  collect  the data, a set of TOEFL test  is used.  It consists  of 50 questions in Listening  section,40  questions in Structure and  Written Expression section,  and  50  questions in Reading  section.  In this research,  only data from Structure  and Written  section are taken. The result of this research  shows that only 5 students who got percentage  of difficulty under  50%  and  25 students above 50%.  It also shows  that  8 problem areas  of 15  problem  areas  are considered  difficult because the average  percentage difficulty is above 50%. Moreover, based on the research finding,  skills needed  in section  II are considered  difficult  There  are only  8 skills out of 24 skills which are in easy level. Meanwhile, the other skills are in difficult  level. In this case, the writer recommends that the students  need to do more practice  on the TOEFL test, especially  in section II.&#13;
