Abstract
Name : Khairawati
Student No. : 0906102050061
Study Program : English Education
Title : An Experimental Research on the Improving Students’
Reading Skill by Using Number Head Together
Keywords: Reading and Number Head Together
This study is aimed at finding out whether teaching reading by using Number Head
Together can improve the students’ reading skills in finding main idea, inference,
detail information, vocabulary, and generic structure in narrative text . In this study,
the writer used quantitative research. The population of this study was the second
grade students of SMPN 9 Banda Aceh. The writer only took one class VIII
2
consisting of 23 as the sample with one group of pre-test and post-test was narrative
text, consisting of 10 multiple choices questions even if in treatment consisting of 10
essay questions. There were five meetings in this study. The result of pre -test and
post-test score was 47.82 and 85.2. It means the post -test is the higher than in the
pre-test. This means the students’ progress in reading skills by using Number Head
Together during the teaching learning activity increased. So, the alternative
hypothesis is accepted.</note>
