ABSTRACT Key words: Speech Style, Character, Green Book Movie Speech style is form of language that speakers use which considered by degree of formality which influenced by participant, setting place, and function. This research discusses the analysis of the differences of speech styles used by two characters in movie Green Book, they are Tony Lip as white driver and Dr. Shirley as black musician. The aim of this research to find out the types of speech style are used by two characters and to find out the differences of speech styles used by them. The source of data in this research is taken from script of the dialogue in the movie. Descriptive of qualitative method is selected to analyze the data. The theory that was applied in this research is Joos theory (1967) which concerns about speech styles. He identified speech styles into five styles, there are frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate. The result of this research shows that Tony Lip only used four types of speech styles, there are formal, consultative, casual, and intimate. Casual speech style is occurred the most frequent and formal speech style occurred the least frequent in Tony Lip’s utterances. Meanwhile, Dr. Shirley used all types of speech styles, there are frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate. Consultative speech style is occurred the most frequent and frozen speech style is the least frequent in Dr. Shirley’s utterances. Casual speech style is occurred the most frequent in Tony Lip’s utterances because he is outspoken and he feels superior.
