 <note>This thesis entitled &quot;The Reluctance of The Acehnese Youth in  Using Acehnese in Their Group (A Case Study of Sociolinguistic) &quot;attempts to find out whether the Acehnese youth still use the Acehnese in their group and also find out the factors that influence them to avoid  using Acehnese in their group. This study belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The population of this study was the students of Syiah Kuala University who have settled  in Banda Aceh at least  for two years and active as members of Student Union (PEMA) of Syiah  Kuala University. To get the data, structured  interview and unstructured observation were used. The results of this  study  show that there are a number of factors underlying the reluctance of the Acehnese youths to use Acehnese in their group. Those factors are (I) Indonesian seems more modem (showing upper- class), (2) Acehnese is harsher than Indonesian, (3) Indonesian used dominantly on campus, (4) Indonesian has a higher prestigious than Acehnese, (5) Neutralize the differences of Acehnese dialect, (6) Indonesian is more impressive and trendy, (7) lndonesian  is  more communicative,  (8)  Indonesian  is  more convenient  than Acehnese, (9) Acehnese is more difficult than Indonesian,  ( I 0) Acehnese is only used  for making joke, humor, and pun, (I l) Indonesian is more reasonable and convenient to communicate  with the opposite sex, (12) If the communication is getting accustomed to being convenience in  Indonesian,  it will be hard to change it into Acehnese,  (13)  Indonesian  is more flexible than Acehnese, (14)  Acehnese seems strange,  ( 15)  Indonesian  is easier and more convenient used to accost new acquaintance.&#13;
