Title : Differences in Writing Ability between Male and Female
Students of SMPN 19 Banda Aceh.

This research aimed to find out there are any differences of English writing ability between male and female junior high school students in SMPN 19 Banda Aceh. This research was conducted by giving test to SMPN 19 male and female students and then describing the results of the test based on the genders. The results showed that the female students scored higher than the male students in five aspects of writing. Female students scored an average score of 85.47 while male students scored an average score of 74.13. In Organization, female students gained an upper hand for their ability in writing things in chronological order. In Content, female students were more adapt at developing their stories. In Grammar, both male and female students made similar mistakes in tenses use. In Punctuation, both genders also made common mistakes in spellings for irregular verbs, but male students made more mistakes in regular words to the point of incoherence. And lastly, in Style, some male and female students mixed their words with Indonesian, but male students also tend to use repetitive transitions more than female students did. From the results, the researcher concluded that there was indeed a difference in writing ability between male and female students of SMPN 19 Banda Aceh. It is suggested for teachers to try to find different approach in teaching writing for male and female students. It is also recommended for teachers to give concrete process in writing development to their students.
