Abstract Name : Dina Septiani Student No : 1506102020034 Study Program : English Education Department Title : A Semiotics Analysis on Michael Jackson’s Song Lyrics and Music Video Keywords: Semiotics, Signifier, Signified, Song Lyrics, Music Video. This research is a semiotics study which aims to find out the signifier and signified in the song lyrics and music videos of Earth Song, Heal The World, Man In The Mirror, They Don’t Care About Us and Childhood by Michael Jackson. The research design used in this research was a descriptive qualitative research with documentation analysis as technique of data collection. In analyzing the data, the researcher used semiotics study proposed by Saussure (1959). The theoretical theory focused more on the sign itself. The research showed that the signifier is the lyrics and the scenes in the video itself, while the signified is the interpretation or the meaning of signifier. Furthermore, the researcher found out the contrast between the song lyrics and music video.
