ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji penyebab putus sekolah di Desa Merah Mege Kecamatan Atu Lintang Kabupaten Aceh Tengah. Putus sekolah pada umumnya disebabkan oleh faktor ekonomi, namun Desa Merah Mege merupakan salah satu Desa dengan angka kemiskinan rendah, tetapi sekitar 10% anak usia sekolah di Desa Merah Mege mengalami putus sekolah. Untuk menganalisa fenomena tersebut, dalam penelitian ini digunakan Teori Interaksionisme Simbolik dari Herbert Blumer. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, dan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Peneliti mengambil subjek berupa informan yaitu aparatur desa, orang tua dari anak putus sekolah, dan anak yang putus sekolah itu sendiri. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Setelah data terkumpul, maka dilakukan sebuah analisis data yang berupa reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil dan pembahasan penelitian disimpulkan bahwa penyebab putus sekolah di Desa Merah Mege bukan hanya karena faktor ekonomi, tetapi juga dipengaruhi oleh faktor kondisi sekolah dan lingkungan anak. Seperti, keadaan anak yang kesulitan dalam belajar, kurangnya kepercayaan diri anak untuk sekolah akibat mengalami tinggal kelas, keluarga yang berpindah tempat tinggal, lingkungan sekolah yang kurang mendukung terhadap cara mengajar pada anak, pendidikan terakhir orang tua yang rendah, adanya minat dalam diri anak yang memberi pengaruh terhadap pemaknaan mengenai sekolah, serta letak geografis Desa Merah Mege yang ada di daerah perkebunan kopi juga merupakan salah satu penyebab anak memutuskan untuk putus sekolah, mereka lebih memilih bekerja dikebun dari pada melanjutkan pendidikan mereka.

ABSTRACT
This study aims to examine the causes of dropouts in Merah Mege Village, Atu Lintang District, Central Aceh Regency. Dropouts are generally caused by economic factors, however in Desa Merah Mege is one of the villages with a low poverty rate, but around 10% of school-age children experience dropouts in Merah Mege. To analyze this phenomenon, the Symbolic Interactionism Theory of Herbert Blumer is used. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, and uses a purposive sampling technique. The researcher took the subject as informants namely village apparatus, parents of children who drop out of school, and children who drop out of school themselves. Techniques of data collection used in this study are observation, interview, and documentation. After the data has been collected, a data analysis is conducted in the form of data reduction, data presentation and taking conclusions. Based on the results and discussions of the research, it was concluded that dropouts in the Merah Mege was not only due to economic factors, but also due factors of school conditions and childern’s environment. Such as the condition of children who had difficulty in learning, less confidence to go to school due to living class experience, families who moved residence, less supportive of how to teach children, parents’ last education is low, children interest influences the meaning of schools for children. The geographical location of Merah Mege which in the coffee plantation area is also one of the causes of children decide to drop out, they prefer to work in the garden rather than continue their education.
