Title : An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts and Perlocutionary Acts of
Milea’s Character in Pidi Baiq’s “Milea Suara dari Dilan”

Keywords: Speech Acts, Types of Illocutionary Acts, Perlocutionary Acts, Novel

This research aimed at analyzing speech acts regarding to the types of illocutionary
acts based on Searle’s classification and perlocutionary acts performed by Milea as
the main character in the “Milea Suara dari Dilan” novel. The data were in form of
description because this research used a qualitative method. The subject of this
research was the “Milea Suara dari Dilan” novel and the Milea’s utterances as the
object. The findings of this research shows that there are five types of illocutionary
act found in the novel. They were assertives 165 utterances, directives 145
utterances, commisives 15 utterances, expressives 6 utterances and declaratives only
2 utterances. The assertives type is the dominant used by Milea rather than the other
types because the genre of novel under study is romance. In the term of
perlocutionary act, the effect from Milea utterances tend to convince, persuade,
annoy, amuse, and frighten the hearers. However, convincing the hearers happen to
be the dominant effect which occur based on Milea’s utterances. All the data were
determined by the context of situation. As further recommendation, it is best to figure
out the different text or discourse to implement speech acts concepts.</note>
