Title : The Use of Round Robin Technique to Improve Students’ Speaking Skill (An Experimental Study at SMPN 17 Banda Aceh)

Round Robin technique is a part of cooperative learning that makes students work in groups to elaborate, share ideas and practice their speaking skill. This study aims at examining whether the use of Round Robin technique can improve students’ speaking ability or not. It also focuses on the use of Round Robin technique in understanding speaking aspects such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency and comprehension. This study was pre-experimental study of one group pretest-posttest design employed by using purposive sampling for 32 students of SMPN 17 Banda Aceh. To collect the data in this study, the researcher administrated the test in the form of speaking test to elicit the data related to students’ speaking ability. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic to depict the attained data and inferential statistic to prove the research hypothesis. From the results of data reveal that the score of post-test is higher than the score of pretest (79 ? 44) as well as the value of t-score is higher than t-table (18.748 > 2.03951), the degree of freedom (df) is 31 and ? (tolerance of failure) is 5% (0.05). It means that the use of Round Robin technique has given the significant impact to improve students’ speaking skill.
