	Preparasi hematit (?-Fe2O3) dari batuan mineral yang berasal pada areal pertambangan biji besi Lhoong Aceh Besar telah berhasil dilakukan. Proses penghalusan mineral biji besi dilakukan secara fisika dengan menggunakan ayangan 100 mesh (149 µm) dan peralatan ball-mill. Selanjutnya, sintesis hematit dilakukan dengan metode presipitasi yaitu dengan mereaksikan partikel biji besi yang telah dihaluskan dengan larutan  H2SO4,  dilanjutkan dengan kalsinasi pada temperatur 700 0C selama 2 jam. Hasil karakterisasi XRD menunjukan telah terbentuknya kristal  hematit-merah (?-Fe2O3), di mana karakterisasi menggunakan SEM-EDXs menunjukan   partikel hematit yang terbentuk berukuran rata-rata sekitar 148 µm dengan kandungan besi (Fe)  sebesar ± 47,5% (% wt) dan unsur oksigen (O) ± 27% (% wt) yang dihasilkan dari mineral biji besi hasil ayangan 100 mesh, dimana perlakuan dengan metode ball mill menghasilkan  partikel hematit yang berukuran sekitar  60 µm dengan kandungan  Fe sebesar  ± 65% (% wt) dan  O sebanyak ± 34% (% wt). Penelitian ini juga mengkonfirmasi bahwa modifikasi hematit dengan natrium (Na) berpengaruh bagi peningkatan luas permukaan total dan kemampuan adsorpsi partikel hematit terhadap ion kromium (Cr+3). &#13;

ABSTRACT&#13;
Hematite (?-Fe2O3) particles had derivated successfully using iron ore minerals which were collected from Lhoong minning area in Aceh Besar. In this study, the particle sizes of iron ore minerals were homogenized physically using a 100-metal sieve  and ball-mill equipment. Furthermore, the hematite particle was prepared through the precipitation method, namely the powdered iron ore particles reacted with H2SO4 solution, then followed by the calcination process at 700 0C for 2 hours. The XRD pattern of the derivated product showed that the red-hematite crystals (?-Fe2O3) had been formed. Another characterization using SEM-EDXs proved that the average size of the hematite particle was 148 µm with its chemical composition consisting of iron (Fe) of 47.5% (% wt) and oxygen (O) of 27% (% wt) for produced hematite resulted from iron ore minerals sieved with a metal mesh of 100. However, in the case of the iron ore mineral milled with a ball-mill, it had resulted hematite with their average size of 60 µm, containing Fe of 65% (% wt) and O of 34% (% wt). This research also confirmed  that the modification of derived hematite with sodium (Na) was increased the total surface area and the adsorptive capasity of derived hematite for chromium ion (Cr+3).&#13;
