ABSTRACT

The design of the phenol formaldehyde plant uses the raw material for phenol and formaldehyde. The whole production process uses a continuous process involving four stages of the process namely the storage of raw materials, the preparation of raw materials, the reaction stage and the product purification stage. The production capacity of the phenol formaldehyde plant is 14.000 tons per year with 330 working days per year. The planned company form is a Limited Liability Company (Ltd) using the line and staff organizational structure method. Employment needs to run this company are 128 people. The location of the plant is planned to be established in Tambakoso Village, Waru, Sidoarjo, East Java, with a land area of 13.990 m2. The source of water for the formaldehyde phenol plant comes from Kali Gununganyar River, and to meet the electricity demand obtained from generators with 419,51 kW power.

The results of the economic analysis obtained are as follows:
1. Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) = Rp 288.042.707.873
2. Total Production Cost (TPC) = Rp 319.877.851.497
3. Depreciation = Rp 14.402.135.394
4. Net Profit = Rp 147.837.187.440
5. Rate of Return (ROR) = 45,70 %
6. Pay Out Time (POT) = 2 years, 10 month, 14 days
7. Break Event Point (BEP) = 18%
8. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 36,60%

Based on the technical and economic feasibility studies above, it can be concluded that the design of the phenol formaldehyde plant is feasible to proceed to the construction stage.
