This research is analyzing of illocutionary acts performed by the main character Azzam in the novel Ketika Cinta Bertasbih. It is an Islamic novel. This research applied Searle’s theory and his 5 classifications, which are assertives, directives, commissives, expressives, and declaratives. This research is not only analyzing the illocutionary acts but also finding the differences of illocutionary acts in islamic fiction and fiction novel. This research used a qualitative method. The findings of this research all of the types of illocutionary acts is found in this novel. The most commonly type found in this novel is directives. The reason is Azzam’s characters, who are hard worker, honest, and firmly that make all of his friends respected and like to ask suggestions from him. Therefore, in this novel Azzam used a lot of directives type. The result of this research is also different with fiction novel since it has different genre from the subject of this novel.
