ABSTRACT Research on the structure of the phytoplankton community in coastal water of Aceh Besar was conducted in September 2012 – February 2013. This study aims to determine the community structure of phytoplankton in the water area of Aceh Besar. The phytoplankton sampling applied the purposive sampling method to choose five observation stations. The result showed that class 4 consists of Bacillariopyceae (18 genera), Cyanophyceae (5 genera), Dinophyceae (4 genera) and Chlorophyceae (2 genera). The abundance phytoplankton was about 16,86 ind/l – 28,98 ind/l. Variety index (H') was about 2,75-3,19. Evenness index (E’) was about 0,97-0,99. Phytoplankton community similarity index (IS) was about 61% - 83%. Keywords: phytoplankton abundance, variety, evenness, similarity index. ABSTRAK Penelitian mengenai struktur komunitas fitoplankton di perairan pantai Aceh Besar telah dilakukan pada bulan September 2012 - Februari 2013. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas fitoplankton di perairan wilayah Aceh Besar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode purpossive sampling untuk menentukan lima stasiun pengamatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 4 kelas fitoplankton yang terdiri dari kelas Bacillariopyceae (18 genera), kelas Cyanophyceae (5 genera), kelas Dinophyceae (4 genera) dan kelas Chlorophyceae (2 genera). Kelimpahan fitoplankton berkisar antara 16,86 ind/l –28,98ind/l. Indeks Keanekaragaman (H’) fitoplankton berkisar 2,75-3,19. Indeks kemerataan (E’) fitoplankton berkisar antara 0,97-0,99. Indeks dominansi (C) berkisar antara 0,04-0,06. Indeks similaritas (IS) berkisar antara 61% - 83%. Kata kunci : kelimpahan fitoplankton, indeks keanekaragaman, indeks kemerataan, indeks similaritas.
