Name : Anggi Srihani Siregar Student No. : 0906102050018 Study Program : English Education Title : The Difficulties Faced by Students of SMPN 11 Banda Aceh in Grammatical Errors Keywords: Difficulties, Writing, This study is focused on the difficulties by the second year students in writing skill. The purpose of the study is to find out the difficulties faced by the second year students of SMPN 11 Banda Aceh in writing skill. The method used in this research is a descriptive where the researcher explained the result of research by describing the data gained. The object of this study is 20 students of second year in VIII/2. They are chosen by using purposive sampling. To collect the data, the researcher used two instruments, the documentary analysis and the questionnaire sheets for the students. From the ninth aspects of grammatical errors based on Ferris (2005), the result of students’ writing recount text showed that the verb form is the type of error made by students which occurred as much as 152 errors. The questionnaire sheets showed that the verb tense error is the most conducted a type of error that students often they make when writing recount text. Based on the findings, it is suggested that the teacher has to pay more attention and teach more specific about grammatical structure in the writing especially in verb form and verb tense.
