ABSTRAK&#13;
&#13;
Kepala sekolah sebagai pimpinan yang memiliki peran strategis dalam meningkatkan kinerja guru. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: untuk mengetahui: program, strategi, dan kendala yang dihadapi kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan  kinerja guru pada SMA Inshafuddin Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah: wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian adalah: kepala sekolah,  wakil kepala sekolah,  dan  guru. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Program kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan kinerja guru sudah disusun, namun tidak terperinci dengan baik. Program yang disusun tetap dilaksanakan dengan sebaik mungkin oleh kepala sekolah untuk meningkatkan kinerja guru; (2) Strategi peningkatan kinerja guru dengan menerapkan strategi kepemimpinan demokratis. Dalam menghadapi guru-guru, biasanya kepala sekolah sering bertukar pikiran dengan para guru, sehingga menemukan satu cara efektif  untuk meningkatkan kinerja mereka dalam pengembangan proses pembelajaran. Guru-guru yang kinerjanya rendah, sikap dan kepribadiannya keras, dengan pendekatan persuasif kepala sekolah menganjurkan agar mereka meningkatkan kinerjanya; dan (3) Kendala yang ditemui kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan kinerja guru antara lain: kurangnya tersedia dana untuk pelatihan guru di luar jam dinas, masih ada guru yang kurang aktif, dan hasil penataran belum mampu disosialisasikan kepada temannya. &#13;

School principals are leaders with a strategic role in improving the teacher's performance. This research aims to examine the programs, strategies, and obstacles faced by the principal in improving the teacher performance in Senior High School Inshafuddin of Banda Aceh. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data collection technique used are interview, observation, and documentary study. The subject of this research is the principal, vice principal, and teachers. The result of the research shows that: (1) The principal has arranged a program to improve the teacher performance, but not in detail. The principal has carried  out  the  program  as well as possible to improve the teacher performance; (2) The strategy of improving the teacher performance is by implementing a democratical leadership strategy. The principal, in facing the teacher, usually often exchanges ideas with the teacher to find an effective way to improve their performance in the development of the learning process. The principal uses a persuasive approach to improve the teacher who has a low performance and has a tough attitude and personality; and (3) In improving the teacher performance, the principal faces obstacles such as: lack of funds available for holding the teacher training outside of the office hour, there are still teachers who are less active, and the upgrading result has not been able to be socialized to his friends. &#13;
