Participation As questions are commonly taken up in the process of teaching and learning English, the teachers should enhance their questioning skill to engage students? participation, particularly their participation in speaking English. This study aimed at describing the teacher?s questioning behaviors, particularly the types of questions and their effects on students? participation in speaking English. The object of this study was an English teacher and students Grade XII IPA 3 in MA Ulumul Quran Langsa. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative research. To obtain the data the writer used observation, document collection, interview and questionnaire. The result of this study revealed that teacher asked more referential question (90 times) than display question (60 times) in two meetings. In addition, the teacher mixed both these types of questions in the same time. Furthermore, the writer found that 57.14% (12 students) have participated actively in speaking English and 42.85% (9 students) participated in English moderately.
