The title of this script is “The Implementation of Talking Chips Technique As Cooperative Learning in Improving the Students’ Speaking Ability.The research population was the students at SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh. The sample of this study were the second grades of junior high school, with 25 students in class VIII-7. The objective of this study was to measure the students’ mastery after practice speaking through Talking Chips technique. The design used in this study was one group experimental design. The writer wanted to see wether the talking chips technique a significant or no significant difference on students’ achievement in speaking. Pre-test treatment was conducted at the beginning and the end of the post-test. The data was analyzed by using t-test to find out the t-score.Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The result showed that using talking chips technique made students motivated in learning speaking. It was also one of the interesting ways for students in developing their speaking skill.
