This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to find out how Talking Stick Technique should be implemented in improving students’ speaking ability and to know the students’ respond toward the implementation of Talking Stick Technique. This research was conducted in three cycles. Each of the cycles consisted of the activities of planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action and reflection. The population of this research was the second grade students of MTsN Tanah Jambo Aye, North Aceh. From this population, VIII/2 class was chosen as the sample. To collect the data, the researcher used some instruments such as observation checklist, tests and questionnaire. The results of research showed that the use of Talking Stick Technique could improve the second year students of MTsN Tanah Jambo Aye in learning speaking. It could be seen from the result of test. The research finding shows that the average score of the pre-test was 50.25 and it reached 72.78 in the post-test after the treatment process in three cycles. If it was compared with the result of the students’ average score in the first cycle was 63.35, and 68.23 in the second cycle, the improving point was 22.53. The data indicates that the students taught by using Talking Stick Technique achieved better score in speaking class and the students’ responses were positive. Students become more interested, motivated, active and creative in learning the material with the Talking Stick. The class’ conditions are conducive. Therefore, the use of Talking Stick Technique in teaching is suitable to improve students’ speaking skill.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implementasi Talking Stick Technique dalam meningkatkan kemampuan speaking siswa dan untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap implementasi Talking Stick Technique. Penelitian tindakan ini dilakukan dalam tiga siklus. Setiap siklusnya terdiri dari kegiatan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas II MTsN Tanah Jambo Aye, Aceh Utara. Dari populasi ini, kelas VIII/2 dipilih sebagai sample. Dalam mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan beberapa instrument diantaranya observasi checklist, test dan questionnaire. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Talking Stick Technique dapat meningkatkan hasil pembelajaran speaking siswa kelas II MTsN Tanah Jambo Aye. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari hasil test. Finding menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pada pre-test adalah 50.25 kemudian meningkat menjadi 72.78 pada post-test setelah diberikan proses pembelajaran. Jika dibandingkan dengan nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus I yaitu 63.35, dan 68.23 pada siklus II jumlah peningkatan yang terjadi adalah 22.53. Data tersebut menunjukkan bahwa para siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan Talking Stick Technique mencapai hasil yang lebih baik dalam pengajaran speaking dan respon para siswa sangat positive. Siswa menjadi lebih tertarik, lebih termotivasi, lebih aktif dan kreatif dalam proses pembelajaran menggunakan Talking Stick Technique. Kondisi kelas juga menyenangkan. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Talking Stick Technique dalam mengajar cocok untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.
