This acoustic study aims to describe the qualities of the Acehnese oral monophthong vowels produced by the male and female speakers from Pidie who speak Acehnese with Pidie dialect. This study proposes to fill in the gap of research by describing the production of vowels produced by male speakers and compares it to the female speakers. This study uses purposive sampling method in selecting ten respondents; five Pidienese male and five Pidienese female speakers, to produce ten target words. The data are obtained from the elicitation of the speakers by recording the target words containing the monophthong vowels adapted from Yusuf (2013). In identifying the vowel quality, F1 and F2 were analyzed using PRAAT version 6.0.37 (Boersma & Weenink, 2018). Based on Wilcoxon signed-rank test, all monophthong vowels are produced differently between male and female speakers. The vowel space shows that the monophthong vowels are produced higher and more back by the male speakers, whilst the vowel space of the female speakers is lower and more fronted. This is because of the gender differences and the differences of the vocal tract between male and female speakers. The theory that said male and female speakers produce sound differently is proven in the comparison between both subjects of this study.
