Title : Teaching Speaking by Using Numbered Heads Together (NHT) Based on Cooperative Learning (An Experimental Research to The Second Year Students of MAN Beureunuen).

Keywords: Teaching Speaking, Numbered Heads Together (NHT).

The objective of this study is to find out if there any significant difference of the students’ score in pretest and posttest after they are taught by Numbered Heads Together (NHT). The method used was quantitative experimental research. The population was all of the second year students at MAN Beureunuen (XI-1, XI-2, XI-3, XI-4), meanwhile the researcher chooses sample class XI -1 with 24 students as a sample by using lottery technique. The test used is monologue about report text. There were four meetings in this study. The result of the post test showed that the achievement of students in speaking showed significant difference. The mean scores for the two tests were improved from 46.3 to 76. This was proven by the t-score result of the test, referring to the t-table at level significant 0.05(2.069) degree freedom (df) 23, the result was higher than t-table, where t-score was 20.71. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, where a significant difference was found on students speaking score in pretest and posttest after they are taught by NHT.
