This research is an experiment of using sociodrama technique in teaching
speaking. The objective of the study was to investigate whether there is a
significant difference in speaking toward comprehensibility and fluency scores
between students who are treated by means of sociodrama and those who are not.
The method used in this study was experimental research design with the level of
significance ?=0.05. The samples of this study were 70 students of the 8
grade at
MTs Swasta Yapena Arun, Lhokseumawe, Aceh, Indonesia. These students were
grouped into the experimental group and the control group, each of which
consisted of 35 students. The instrument used was a set of test, which was
administrated in the form of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by
using SPSS 20 which is the statistical package for social sciences. Basically, the
data were considered normal and homogenous. From the t-test, it was obtained
that the critical area is higher than 2.00. The t
count
value from the post-test between
the experimental and control groups is 2.54, which certainly lies within the critical
area. In conclusion, the sociodrama technique has raised students’ speaking ability
in comprehensibility and fluency.
