Idiomatic Expressions or idiom is a group of words that have a different meaning from the
individual words, its meaning sometimes is hard to guess.The aims of this study are to find
out types of idiomatic expressions used in Eumpang Breuh Movie and their meaning based on
the context.The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative.This study used
observation and documentation as instruments. The writer classified types of idiom based on
McCarthy and O’Dell (2010) theory and to analyze the contextual meaning based on Chaer
(2007).The data were collected through observation and document analysis. After collectiong
and analyzing the data from Eumpang Breuh movie, the writer found 6 types of idiom
expressions with total sum of 41 items. The writer found 12 of Simile or 30%, 8 of Common
Metaphors or 19%, 7 of Verb + Noun + Adverb/ Complement or 18%, 6 of Idiomatic Noun
Phras/Collocation or 14%, 6 of Compound or 14%, and 2 of Whole Clause/ Sentences or 5%.
The writer hopes the result of the research can give information and contribution for the
students or readers in studying socioliguistics literature especially about idiom. It is also
hoped to be useful for other researchers who are interested in idiom.
