The purpose of this study is to conduct error analysis in terms of cohesion and coherence in journal articles published by some journals under Syiah Kuala University. Qualitative method was used with descriptive approach. The data were taken from 7 journals consisting of 21 articles published under Syiah Kuala University journal system. The analysis was done to the sentences and paragraphs in the articles in terms of cohesion and coherence. Data analysis was done by using descriptive qualitative analysis technique. The results show that the journal articles indicate some errors in cohesion and coherence. Cohesion errors occur to (1) the use of conjunctions; i.e. intra-sentence conjunctions and inter-costal conjunctions; (2) the use of pronouns to express references; (3) the use of substituted cohesion in the conclusion of some paragraphs; (4) the use of discharging (ellipsis) with the absence of a subject; and (5) the use of synonyms and repetitions. Coherence errors include the errors of reasoning and logical language where the generalization is too broad. In addition, the error occured due to inadequate causality.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk kesalahan kohesi dan koherensi paragraf dalam artikel jurnal di lingkungan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah 7 jurnal di Lingkungan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Data penelitian ini adalah kalimat atau paragraf yang terdapat kesalahan kohesi dan koherensi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik analisis kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini bahwa artikel jurnal di lingkungan Universitas Syiah Kuala terjadi kesalahan berbahasa pada dua aspek kesalahan, yaitu kohesi dan koherensi. Kesalahan kohesi terjadi (1) konjungsi, yaitu konjungsi intrakalimat dan konjungsi antarkalimat; (2) penggunaan kata tunjuk untuk menyatakan referensi; (3) penggunaan kohesi pergantian (substitusi) pada kalimat kesimpulan dalam paragraf; (4) pemakaian pelesapan (elipsis) karena ketiadaan subjek; dan (5) pemakaian sinonim dan repetisi. Kesalahan koherensi meliputi kesalahan penalaran dan logika berbahasa, generalisasi terlalu luas, dan kesalahan karena hubungan sebab akibat tidak memadai.
